Faith, Conviction and the Common Good: Our Residents at the Knights Leadership Breakfast
At St Thomas More College, we believe university life is about more than a degree. It is about developing the confidence to ask questions, engage with different perspectives and understand the role we can play in the wider community.
Recently, a group of our residents had the opportunity to do exactly that at the Knights Leadership Breakfast, where they heard from three serving Members of the Western Australian Legislative Council about faith, conscience and what it means to serve the public good.
For students living at a residential college in Perth, opportunities like this provide an important connection between university life, leadership and the wider community.
The breakfast brought together students and community leaders for an engaging conversation about the role that personal conviction can play in public life.
For our residents, the conversation offered an opportunity to think beyond their studies and consider how their own values, experiences and education might shape the way they contribute to society.
Connecting our residents with WA leaders
One of the highlights was hearing from The Hon Kate Doust MLC, a Tommy More alum.
Having one of our alumni among the speakers provided a valuable connection for our residents, demonstrating the many different pathways that can follow a university education and a strong community experience.
These connections are an important part of the St Thomas More College experience. As a residential college near UWA in Perth, our community extends beyond the College itself, creating opportunities for residents to meet alumni, professionals and community leaders who can broaden their perspectives and help them build connections for life beyond university.
More than a degree
At St Thomas More College, living in a residential college in Perth gives students opportunities to learn both inside and outside the classroom.
Our residents come together through academic, cultural, sporting, faith, wellbeing, outreach and professional development activities. Events such as the Knights Leadership Breakfast are one part of a broader residential experience designed to help students build confidence, develop leadership skills and connect with people from across the community.
Located close to The University of Western Australia, St Thomas More College provides a supportive university community where students can live, study, build friendships and make the most of their university years.
From meeting inspiring alumni to participating in community outreach, attending leadership events and getting involved in College life, our residents are encouraged to make the most of every opportunity.
Because university is about more than a degree. It is about the people you meet, the experiences you have and the person you become along the way.
Building connections beyond the College
It was wonderful to see our alumni continuing to contribute and make their mark in the wider community, while our residents had the opportunity to hear from and connect with leaders beyond the College.
For students considering university accommodation in Perth, a residential college offers more than somewhere to live. It can be a place to develop friendships, discover new interests, meet mentors and become part of a community that continues well beyond graduation.
At St Thomas More College, we are proud to create those opportunities for our residents and to continue building connections between our current students, alumni and the wider Perth community.
More than a degree. More than accommodation. A community for life.
