Commissioning Mass Welcomes Mim Jones as Head of College

St Thomas More College gathered to celebrate the Commissioning Mass for our new Head of College, Mim Jones, marking an important moment in the life of our College community.

The Mass was led by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, with Very Reverend Father Vincent Glynn and Monsignor Kevin Long concelebrating, and Father Jason Yeap serving as Master of Ceremonies. Residents, staff, alumni, members of Council, family, friends and members of the wider College community joined together for the special celebration.

For Mim, the occasion was also a meaningful reflection on her own connection to residential college life. Having first entered a residential college more than 20 years ago, she reflected on how those formative years helped shape her journey and ultimately led her to this role.

“I discovered community. And in many ways, I discovered myself.”

Now as Head of College, Mim spoke about the privilege of accompanying students through some of the most formative years of their lives.

She reflected on the importance of creating a community where students feel known, welcomed and supported, while being encouraged to grow, serve and discover their purpose.

“Young people need places where they are genuinely known. Places where they experience respect, belonging and friendship.”

Her address also highlighted the importance of faith and service in leadership, and her hope to lead St Thomas More College with wisdom, compassion, humility and courage.

The Commissioning Mass was a beautiful opportunity to formally welcome Mim into her new role, while celebrating the faith, community and shared mission at the heart of St Thomas More College.

Following the Mass, guests gathered on the Piazza for refreshments and continued the celebration together.

A special thank you to the Choir of Holy Spirit, our Chapel Community and the Altar Servers from St Mary’s Cathedral for their contribution to the Mass and for helping make this celebration such a meaningful occasion.
