New Rector Appointed Archbishop Hickey has announced the appointment of a new Rector for St Thomas More College. The Archbishop has been pleased to announce that Brother Rob Callen, a Christian Brother, will take up his appointment in March, succeeding Father Kevin Long, who will become the new Rector of St Charles Seminary, Guildford. This is the first time that a Christian Brother has held such a position in WA, although a Christian Brother is currently Rector of St Leo's College in Brisbane, and a Marist Brother is Rector of Aquinas College in Adelaide. Brother Rob has recently returned to Perth from studies at Boston College in the US, where he completed postgraduate studies with an MA in Pastoral Ministry concentrating on Youth and Young Adult faith. He is also a graduate of UWA, and in 1986 completed a Graduate Diploma in Religious Education at the Institute of Religious Education in Dundalk, Ireland. Immediately before going to Boston, Brother Rob was Director of Campus Ministry at Trinity College, where he introduced the very successful Kairos and Quest Retreats. Brother has been leading groups of students to India on immersion experiences for the past twenty years. He has extensive leadership experience. Before returning to Perth in 2001 he was Principal of St John's College, Whyalla, and then Assistant to the Headmaster at Saint Ignatius College in Adelaide. Speaking of his appointment, Brother Rob said that he was honoured by the Archbishop's decision, and looked forward to engaging with the young people at St Thomas More College. Being conscious of the fine traditions of the College, he said that he intended to uphold those traditions of academic excellence, community service, pastoral care and faith formation. Brother Rob is looking forward to working closely with the excellent staff, who have maintained the high reputation of St Thomas More College over many years. He is also pleased to note that the Archbishop has committed to supply a priest to ensure that the College Chapel continues as a special centre of worship. |
