College History

Class of 1955 St Thomas More College was founded by Archbishop Redmond Prendiville. It was funded initially by many Western Australian and overseas benefactors.

Construction of the Front Wing (Blocks A to F) and College Chapel began in 1953. The first students - 5 in number - took up residence on 14th March 1955. As more rooms were completed, other residents entered the College. By the end of 1955 the College housed 38 students. The College was officially opened on 29th May 1958.

Initially only having one wing (Front Wing), the college has grown to include the Middle Wing (Blocks G to K - 1962), the Dining Room, Kitchen and Blocks L & M (1966), the Back Wing (Blocks N & O - 1970) and the Murphy Wing (Block Q - 1985).

St Thomas More College first welcomed women residents in 1974. Today it has an equal complement of male and female residents.

The College was administered by the Society of Jesus until July 1999. It is now administered by the Archdiocese of Perth.
