College Crest

The College Crest The St Thomas More College crest is drawn from the family crest of St Thomas More. It features two moorcocks; the black swan locates the College in Western Australia, and links it to the University of Western Australia. The two crosses in the scroll note the Christian basis of the College.

The More family coat of arms was probably granted by Edward IV to Sir John More, Sir Thomas' father. In the fifteenth century, puns were a favourite heraldic device, and the moorcocks are a pun on the name MORE.

The St Thomas More College motto comes from Thomas More's comment to his executioner: he affirmed that he died the king's good servant, but God's servant first.
